We are delighted to announce that My Thali: A Simple Indian Kitchen, has been shortlisted for the 2023 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

My Thali, by Joe Thottungal with Anne DesBrisay, is shortlisted alongside four other titles in the India category. The coveted cookbook award will be given to the best cookbook in the category, and all shortlisted titles will be in the running for the Best in the World title.

The book features Chef Joe’s favorite home-cooked recipes and stories from his homeland of Kerala, connecting past and present in the world of Indian cooking today. This exploration of food heritage features a collection of 85 signature recipes—from simple raitas to nourishing dals and fragrant curries—that can be easily re-created at home, using accessible ingredients and everyday cooking equipment, and without any compromise to flavor or authenticity.

This year, the 29th year of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, cookbooks from over 200 countries were entered in the competition.

The winners will be announced November 27-29 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Chef Joe attending the ceremony for the India category on November 28.
