Jessica Sullivan: The thing about food photographers
“A part without cake is just a meeting.” To this, I say, well said, Julia Child.
Mrs. Child also said, “People who love to eat are always the best people.” And I think the same could be said of those people who love to photograph the food we love to eat.
I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and working with some remarkable people over the years. Our cookery program has opened up new food experiences in cities across North America, introduced me to new restaurants and chefs, and provided opportunities to work with and meet some crazy-talented and lovely photographers along the way.
Starting geographically where I reside in Vancouver and working eastward, below are some highlights from the past five years.
Jess leads every aspect of Figure 1’s creative strategy. She oversees the design of all of our books, while designing some as well. With fifteen years of experience in publishing, she has won numerous awards for her book design, including more than forty Alcuin Society Awards and an Applied Arts Award. Jess lives and breathes books—if she’s not designing them, she’s reading them, looking at them, or lusting after them.
