Figure 1 Publishing Wins Alcuin Awards
We are delighted to announce that Figure 1 Publishing recently won several awards at the 2014 Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design. We took First and Third prize in the reference category for The Dirty Apron Cookbook and Toronto Cooks respectively. (Our creative director, Jessica Sullivan, also won Second prize in this category for a book she designed for Douglas & McIntyre.)
We also won both prizes awarded in the pictorial category, taking First prize for The West Coast Modern House and an Honourable Mention for Susan Point: Works on Paper. This award news comes only a few weeks after four of our books were shortlisted for the Melva J. Dwyer Award which recognizes contributions made to the field of art and architecture. (Read how our authors responded to being nominated here.)
The Alcuin Society promotes the appreciation of beautifully produced books, connecting like-minded individuals and promoting the finest in Canadian book design. This win is particularly significant for Figure 1 since it is our goal to consistently produce the most stunning, innovative art books in North America.
We congratulate book designers Mark Timmings and Peter Cocking for their brilliant work, and thank our Jessica Sullivan for her incredible artistry and for her commitment to building a program that continues to push the boundaries of beautiful book design.
Thank you to the Alcuin Society for recognizing these four amazing books!
