Two Figure 1 cookbooks shortlisted for Taste Canada Awards

We couldn’t be more delighted that two of our titles have made the 2024 Taste Canada Awards shortlist.

My Thali: A Simple Indian Kitchen by Joe Thottungal with Anne DesBrisay, and Okanagan Eats: Signature Chefs’ Recipes from British Columbia’s Wine Valleys by Dawn Postnikoff and Joanne Sasvari, are both finalists in the Regional/Cultural Cookbooks category.

In My Thali, which received a 2023 Gourmand World Cookbook Award, chef Joe Thottungal shares his favorite home-cooked recipes and stories from his homeland of Kerala, connecting past and present in the world of Indian cooking today.

This exploration of food heritage features a collection of 85 signature recipes—from simple raitas to nourishing dals and fragrant curries—that can be easily re-created at home, using accessible ingredients and everyday cooking equipment, and without any compromise to flavor or authenticity.

Okanagan Eats is a collection of more than 70 signature recipes from the Okanagan Valley.

Celebrating locality, seasonality and heritage, Okanagan Eats presents a one-stop collection of signature recipes from the valley’s top chefs, restaurants, cafés and wineries—all designed with home cooks in mind.

The award will be given to the best cookbook written by a Canadian author, which best exemplifies the cooking of a specific terroir or region in Canada, or, the cooking of a specific ethnic group.

The gold and silver award winners will be announced in the fall.
